Kathryn (Kate) McKenzie (B.HKin, B.Ed, PTS)

Kate grew up in Winnipeg, MB and has always been passionate about sports and fitness. After graduating from Collège Jeanne-Sauvé in south Winnipeg, she accepted a scholarship to play volleyball at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, BC where after two years she graduated with a Diploma in Physical Education. She was named captain of the volleyball team and was also a member of the soccer team. Kathryn was recognized as an All-Canadian, Academic All-Canadian, and Athlete of the Year before accepting a volleyball scholarship and transferring to the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC. While at UBC, she was named volleyball team captain, Can-West Conference All-Star, and Academic All-Canadian. She graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Human Kinetics and a Bachelor of Education.

She has continued to gain credentials in order to keep up with the ever-evolving world of sport conditioning and to be able to provide her clients with cutting-edge training. She has obtained her certification as a Personal Trainer Specialist through the Canadian Fitness Professionals Association and her advanced certification as a Sport Conditioning Specialist through Twist Conditioning. She has worked in fitness facilities and with top trainers in both Vancouver and Winnipeg and has used these experiences to create Surefire Fitness. She is also an NCCP Certified Coach in numerous sports and is TRX Suspension Training certified.

She recenlty published the best-selling book 'Throw Your Scale Away! Reclaiming the True Meaning of Health & Fitness' and enjoys delivering keynote presentations on that very subject.

When not training others, she enjoys playing hockey, doing yoga, and spending time on the golf course.

David Grad (B.Ed, PTS)

Group Fitness Instructor & Personal Trainer

Dave is a former competitive swimmer who received his Bachelor of Education degree at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. 

He is a Certified Personal Trainer Specialist with a background of coaching in various sports and will be assisting with numerous Surefire projects including our Group Fitness and Personal Training Programs.

 

He continues to stay active by playing recreational soccer while learning the latest techniques in sport conditioning. His hockey allegiance remains in question...

Steph has loved sport and fitness her entire life! She continues to play recreational soccer while coaching and playing competitive rugby. She has just completed her Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of Manitoba.

Steph has a passion for sport and healthy living and enjoys helping people improve their quality of life by achieving their fitness goals. She is always keeping her eyes and ears open for new research, techniques and information that help make her a better trainer and is excited to share that passion with you!
